Some Enchanted Evening
Real Life Musicals
For the first time ever, Janine and I got season tickets to the Fifth Avenue musicals this year. The plays were uniformly well done, the music excellent, and well worth the investment. But to enjoy a musical, you truly have to suspend disbelief, since no matter what happens, the entire cast breaks into song and dance. My fear was that after seeing the whole slate of musicals, our office would begin to think that is how life really happens. Unfortunately last week we snapped, and here is the transcript of that fateful day when Mr and Mrs Granger met with me to put together a purchase and sale agreement. MR GRANGER: We are interested in purchasing this piece of commercial property, and would like your help putting together the purchase and sale agreement, and doing the title work. GREG: (unless otherwise indicated, all of Greg's comments are done to the tune of "Some Enchanted Evening"). Some enchanted evening. I will meet a Granger. He will say "hey stranger prepare a PSA". And somehow you know, you know even then, that pretty soon your lawyer will pick up his pen.
MS GRANGER: Uhhh, very nice, and you know that tune sounds kind of familiar, but I'd kind of like to know how a 1031 exchange works and would it be appropriate for this deal. GREG: (Dancing on desk) Who can explain it, who can tell you why, fools give you reasons, wise men never try. (Using intercom) Janine, could you join us? MR GRANGER: Uh, any thoughts on how much earnest money we should offer? GREG: Some enchanted evening, I will see a Granger, I'll say don't small change her, let's offer them the sky. Let's go 20K, and see if they say, how happy, happy am I. (Janine enters office and she and Greg dance around the desk) Once you have found her, never let her go!!! MS GRANGER (smiling). This is kind of cool. (To the tune of Some Enchanted Evening) This enchanted evening, I am Mrs Granger, I've never seen a stranger attorney in all my life. But somehow I know, the purchase will go, just fine and we will be joyful again. EVERYONE: And we will be joyful again!!! JANINE: (to the tune of Fiddler on the Roof, "If I Were a Rich Man). Now, have you done your wills yet, Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum........
